Last Friday the highly-anticipated sequel Splatoon 2 was released worldwide, and the game seems to have been pretty popular with Nintendo Switch owners, as figures reported by Famitsu (translated by the kind soul DKHF on NeoGAF) reveal that 670,955 physical copies of the game were sold in Japan during its first three days on the shelves.

This is impressive no doubt, but this becomes even more so when we learn that this makes it the highest selling game for Nintendo Switch in Japan, where console sales have just reached 1,205,087 units (counting the 102,000 units sold since last Friday). Highly advanced mathematics tells us that the game has an attach rate of 55% so far, but it's most likely higher since we don't know digital sales.

The players' confidence in Nintendo's shooter has grown a lot since 2015, since at the point of Splatoon's release there were 2,333,622 Wii U consoles in the Japanese market, but only 156,610 physical copies of Splatoon were sold during the "debut period".

If you want to know whether Splatoon 2 is worth your time, make sure to check out our review at some point. Does the game's popularity surprise you?

"We had a lot of fun with our time in the game, although returning players will have to weigh up for themselves whether there's enough to warrant the upgrade."
