Squadron 42 is the single-player portion of the ambitious PC game Star Citizen and although it doesn't have a release date it was expected to be ready this year, and even the web page says 2016. This was all thrown into question when reports came in that Chris Roberts of Cloud Imperium Games said it won't be ready until mid-to-late 2017.

These reports were later proved to be false when it was confirmed that the Gamescom interviewer said this, and not Roberts. What didn't help the confusion is that a Reddit thread quoted Gamestar boss Michael Graf as saying "Chris stated in an interview that all content for Squadron 42 (graphics, missions) will be complete by the end of the year. There is still more work to do concerning some basic systems like the AI or the cover system for infiltration missions. Those will take more time." He did add, however, "that was a mistake. I have watched the recording of the interview again (his conversation with Chris Roberts during Gamescom), and Chris talked about 2017. You hear that much during Gamescom, I've just mixed things up."

RSI (Roberts Space Industries) have since been contacted to clarify the matter, and the response was that "it appears something may have been lost in the translation [...] Chris spoke to multiple reporters at Gamescom who asked about the status of Squadron 42. We have been feature locked for a while and things are coming along nicely. In every case he told them that we are hard at work on the game and are focused on making it great but no official launch dates were discussed."

CitizenCon, on October 9, will feature a progress report and a visual update on Squadron 42, but as of yet there is still no release date.
