Star Citizen has reached $113.5 million in crowdfunding

Chris Roberts and Cloud Imperium Games has not only surpassed all expectations regarding the crowdfunding goals of Star Citizen but simply crushed every other project in terms of backing. A massive $113.5 million has been provided today which is almost as much as the development budget of Grand Theft Auto V. In a recent blog post Cloud Imperium Games commented the progress of the game:

Whether they're artists, programmers, designers, engineers, writers, directors, producers, and more, they're all gamers who want to share this experience with everyone reading these each and every month."

The project as a whole is now split in two - the massively multiplayer game of Star Citizen and the multiplayer campaign that is Squadron 42. Star Citizen is playable in an alpha state (as a series of modules), while Squadron 42 is expected to launch fully this year.
