Could be a sign of an outright cancellation.

It was announced with a bang during E3 in 2014, through one of the conference's most entertaining trailers that year. After that we have not heard a whole lot about the game, at least not within the "good news" category.

After some time publisher Deep Silver decided take the project away from Spec Ops: The Line developer Yager and hand it over to Sonic Racing developer Sumo Digital instead. Now, however, it seems work on the game might have been given up entirely.

How have we come to this conclusion? Well, the Steam page for Dead Island 2 no longer exists, which is usually a pretty good signal that development has stopped. The missing page was first reported by NeoGAF user Saxat:

"About an hour ago the Dead Island 2 steam page was seemingly removed from steam, It wouldn't surprise me if it turns out the game is being cancelled. Between Yager dropping out and handing the development Sumo Digital it seems like Deep Silver is most likely abandoning the project."

Of course, it could be that Deep Silver are preparing to re-launch the Steam page to reflect what the new game looks like once it has been re-announced with new visuals. So perhaps we shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet.

After an unreasonably long wait and a definition of development hell, it's finally time to play Dead Island 2, has it been worth the wait?
