The tongue-in-cheek first-person-shooter, Strafe (or as they call it, STRAFE), is to release in early 2017 on PC and Mac, it has been announced today.
The game is being described as "the fastest, bloodiest, deadliest, most adjective-abusing, action-packed first-person shooter of 1996," and that "billions quake at the mere thought of not getting a chance to play it on release day."
While there's clearly a lot of homage to the shooter genre's origins in the '90s, Strafe does look like an interesting game, with randomly generated levels, enemies and secrets. The game looks like it'll hold plenty of replay value, and promises 'ultimate mayhem' on each play-through.
The game is being developed by indie devs Pixel Titans, and as announced today, published by Devolver Digital. The shooter also received funding after a last minute dash over the finishing line of a Kickstarter campaign last year.
Pixel Titans' Tom Glunt spoke about Devolver's involvement in helping develop the game: "People want blood. They want tight action. They want speed that makes their face melt off, so they can scoop up the soupy remains and toss it in the air like a liquid confetti. Nobody gets that like Devolver Digital."
Strafe is to hit PC, Mac, and possibly Linux in early 2017, and it will be Oculus Rift compatible.
