At Gamelab 2016's PlayStation Talents room we caught up with the Portuguese Fun Punch dev/artist and co-founders duo of Filipe Caseirito and Tiago Franco to learn all about Strikers Edge, their arcade-styled multiplayer combat/sports game that is soon coming out for PS4 and PC.
Filipe describes the gameplay as "dodgeball with real weapons instead of a ball, and ancient warriors", while Tiago explains the retro-styled 16-bit pixel art graphic style was just the most fitting to the concept.
It may look and play like a sports game, but there's no scoring as in Strikers Edge one to four (1v1, 2v2) players can literally fight to death by using both their weapons and the environmental hazards, plus some spectacular ultimate moves. Arena widens when in 2v2 mode, and given its competitive edge, devs hope this to even become one fun "indie eSports" highlight.
The game won the PlayStation Talents award and thus its development has been heavily supported by Sony in 2016. It had to be "content complete" by the end of September, so its launch date for PS4 and PC/Steam should be right around the corner.
