Stunlock Studios looking to wind down support for Battlerite

The hybrid-MOBA has impressed plenty of players, but it has struggled to retain them in the long term.

Stunlock Studios has confirmed that it plans to scale back support for Battlerite and Battlerite Royale, stating that the following season of content, which is due to land on July 10, may well be the last due to diminishing returns and the challenge of retaining players. The following statement from the studio explains it best:

"With the state of the current playerbase we're no longer in a position where working on Battlerite and Battlerite Royale are sustainable as main projects for the studio. We've seen declining player numbers and player investment for a while now, and diminishing returns on all of our latest gameplay changes and marketing campaigns. While players are willing to try out Battlerite and Battlerite Royale for a while, retaining them has always been our biggest challenge.

"Battle Season 3 and the associated Battle Pass will be the last that we have planned for the foreseeable future. We are exploring ideas for development after Battle Season 3, and will announce any potential plans closer to the end of the Season. The servers regardless will stay online."

In the same post, the studio outlined its plans for Season Three, confirmed a price cut on in-game characters, and noted that certain unfinished projects (such as the Tournament System) wouldn't make it into the game.

The third and potentially final season is due to end in October, and the studio has promised to outline further plans for the game closer to that time.

"It does a great job of taking a loved MOBA feature, and focusing on making it the best it can be."
