One of several new features shown off for Final Fantasy XV during E3 last month was the PSVR-ready Virtual Reality demo featuring the character Prompto (it also includes an in-game model of the upcoming PSVR headset).
Chatting with game director Hajime Tabata in the video interview below, we wondered why they chose this character in particular, and why not go for a first-person demo. Here's the answer in full:
"The thing with Sony [is] they approached us quite recently asking if we could do a demo of some kind for the VR, and we actually managed to develop that in a very short period of time. It wasn't a long development at all. When we were thinking about which part of the Final Fantasy world we wanted to cut out and use for that little VR demo, we thought that probably the best fit, the one that would really convince people the most and be the most fun, would be to use Prompto as the main character you play, have a gun-shooting kind of action game involving him. So that was why we chose to use him and do it in that [third-person] way".
