We find ourselves angrily shaking our fist at the wind once again, as another major gaming event has fallen victim to the Covid-19 virus. The Big House, a Super Smash Bros. tournament set to be held in October, has closed its doors in response to the ongoing global situation.
Posting on Twitter, event organisers said: "Over the past few weeks, The Big House staff has been anxiously monitoring the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and hoping that the events and gatherings that we love would be possible. However, due to concerns for the health and well-being of our community, we've decided to cancel The Big House event this year."
The post continues: "While it's heart-breaking to be unable to gather in person, we're currently looking at ways to keep The Big House spirit strong through 2020. We have some great ideas and look forward to sharing them with you in the coming months".
A disappointing announcement indeed, but we respect the organiser's decision to close its doors to ensure the protection of staff and attendees. Could the great ideas it plans to share include some form of online competition? We hope so, but only time will tell.
Thanks, Dot Esports.
