A new game from Paranoid Productions and Richard Rouse III (The Suffering) has been announced. The Church in the Darkness is a top-down infiltration game, set in the jungles of South America in the '70s. It's inspired by real life events, and you play as a former law enforcement officer who endeavours to enter 'Freedom Town,' to find his sister's son.

The setting for the game is interesting, and from the looks of the trailer it seems that the player will be up against the members of a fanatical cult and its members. The cult is led by a husband and wife combo named Rebecca and Isaac Walker, who were persecuted for their beliefs in the USA and fled.

The cult leaders are to be voiced by Ellen McLain and John Patrick Lowrie, best known for playing Portal's GlaDOS and Team Fortress 2's Sniper, respectively. They are also having a hand in creating the soundtrack for the game, with Ellen having helped with the music for the Portal games.

Each playthrough of the game is to be unique; there will be different character personalities and a shifting narrative told through investigation, observation, and action. There will be many types of enemies: presumably the Cult members and another group called the Walkers.

The Church in the Darkness looks quite interesting, and is set to come to PC, PS4 and Xbox One sometime early next year.

REVIEW. Written by Jonathan Sørensen

"It keeps the adrenaline pumping, making you want to experiment more as you decide where you want to take the story. After a while, however, it starts to wear thin."
