A week after its release, it seems that The Culling 2 has already been abandoned by its players. While the first game peaked at 12,622 concurrent users, the sequel's all-time peak was only 249, with only two players in the last 24 hours and just one person playing online at the time of writing.

The game's rating won't help it find new players either, with the battle royale game (which released last Tuesday) getting a rare Very Negative rating on Steam. Again, at the time of writing, it has received 13% positive reviews. Players are lamenting the unfinished state of the game, the changes to melee combat, and the lack of players in the game.

Interestingly, the release has also affected the rating of the original game, with The Culling's rating plunging to "mostly negative" in the wake of this release.

The developer posted a response to the negative feedback. The Xaviant official Twitter account wrote: "It's time for us here at Xaviant to come together for some much-needed soul searching and to have some admittedly difficult discussions about the future of our studio. We'll talk soon."
