The upcoming card game based on the Elder Scrolls universe is to enter closed beta today, and gamers hoping to sign up can do so on the Bethesda website now. Entitled The Elder Scrolls: Legends, the game is to be free-to-play on release and will explore everything in the TES universe from characters to deities and monsters.
It's intended to be a pick-up-and-play game that you'll be able to enjoy for either ten minutes or ten hours, depending on how much free time you have. There will definitely be no lack of cards, seeing as the TES universe is one of the most expansive out there, with thousands of years of lore to draw from. The game will include a number of different game modes and challenges that apparently will be easy to learn but difficult to master, meaning that players of all skill levels should be able to enjoy themselves.
It looks like it will be vaguely similar to Blizzard's Hearthstone, the card game based on the World of Warcraft universe. It wouldn't be too much of a guess to say that the free-to-play model is probably the same as well.
Who wouldn't want to get in on the digital card game market; Hearthstone hit 40 million players back in February, and makes millions per month selling packs and expansions.
Of course, the game will also be getting a mobile version, so you can play on the go. This will not be part of the beta, so you might have to wait until the game is actually released before you can play on android and iOS.
"As a fan of digital strategy card games, I'm especially excited about having people play Legends," said Bethesda's Pete Hines. "We're looking forward to hearing their feedback and having them help us shape the future of the game."
There hasn't been a release date announced for the game yet, but we can expect to see more details revealed in the coming days at PAX East, where the game will be playable and livestreamed. Anyone desperate to play can sign up to the beta here.
