The Fall Part 2 delayed to avoid AAA competition

The game is pretty much done, but Over the Moon don't want to drown amongst AAA games.

"We need some extra time to polish the game", "there was a problem in production" and "the development of this aspect has taken longer than we expected" are just some of the most common excuses developers and publishers tend to employ when delaying a game. Over the Moon has decided to go for a reason that rarely makes its way to the public.

The studio has released a new video for The Fall Part 2: Unbound where game director John Warner states that the game is "basically done", and that they just need a few more weeks to polish it. Should we expect to see the game in late-October then? Nope. Warner has no interest in releasing the game this year, for one simple reason:

"That puts us into the main release window for the AAA industry, which is suicide for an indie. For that reason, we've decided to take some extra time to make sure the build is really solid, get a proper marketing campaign together, and probably launch in the first week of 2018."

Are we the only ones who think this is a refreshingly honest and straightforward reason? We also think it's a very smart decision. Many of us are already "dreading" October 27, when both Assassin's Creed: Origins, Super Mario Odyssey, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus launches. Poor, little The Fall Part 2: Unbound wouldn't stand a chance against these giants. Why not start the new year with this interesting sequel instead?

Which other games do you think should have done or must do the same?
