Endnight Games' The Forest is one of those games that seems to have been out for ages, having been played by YouTubers like PewDiePie and gathering a large community of players already, but this has only been in Early Access thus far. We've recently got an update on the Steam forums, however, which reveals that the full release is coming at the end of April, ending its almost four-year run in Early Access.

The exact date for this release will be revealed nearer the time, but we do know that there will be a price increase from $14.99 USD to $19.99, with no specific prices being given for other currencies. This is most likely due to the new features coming in v1.0 (the full game), including improvements to languages and controller support.

What's perhaps more interesting are the new resources for killing the creepy enemies you'll be bumping into, as well as the rethinking of the cold and warm system, including a new warm suit. New buildable objects are also being added too, as well as performance optimisatons (especially for late-game saves); changes to how multiplayer save games work; a load of improvements to dedicated servers; and multiplayer clothing being improved and expanded, allowing you to switch outfits.

A VR mode is also on the way, but more details will be given closer to release, and alongside all this there are also "some really crazy and fun surprises in store, especially regarding the ending and [we] are really excited to see what people think," according to the post.

For now, though, the focus is on pushing out the V0.73 patch as well as other smaller updates, with release candidates being put out to try and keep everyone involved in the process. V0.73 includes a new icon grouping system that groups icons together based on distance, and a load of UI and bug fixes, which can be found in more detail here.

Are you glad to see the game finally get a full release?

"The excellent AI will leave you genuinely terrified while playing alone in the dark, and you'll be even more grateful when an online buddy comes along to help you out."

"It proved to be rather enjoyable at times thanks to some exciting ideas, but it didn't fully click with us in the long-run."
