Riot Games has revealed that Artem Bykov has been named as the new commissioner for the League of Legends European Championship. Previously known for his time as part of the Natus Vincere esports organisation, Bykov will be in charge of overseeing and growing the LEC, and will be working closely with the head of esports for LoL in EMEA, Maximilian Peter Schmidt, and esports product manager at Riot, Filipe Borges, to further develop and support competitive play across the continent.

"I am thrilled to join Riot Games as Commissioner of the LEC," said Bykov. "The LEC is continuing to go from strength to strength and I am relishing the opportunity to help build on the success of the League. Riot's player first experience and dedication to the growth of esports is why I am eager to get underway during what is a super exciting time for League of Legends in the EMEA region."

As well as previously being tied to Natus Vincere, Bykov has spent time working at Blizzard Entertainment and ESL Gaming, so this isn't the first time that he has worked in the esports world.
