Announced around two years ago, The Occupation is a detective thriller set in 1980's North West England. Focusing on a bomb story cover up, you play as an investigative journalist looking to expose the lies put in place by the government. Statistics and figures of the incident are fabricated and you are looking to seek the truth.

In a new trailer released by the developer, we are treated to a full 10-minute gameplay section, which shows how the mechanics work in real time, and how to use that time to your advantage. Player choice looks to be at the heart of The Occupation, with one scenario offering multiple ways to take it on, from alternate pathways to sneaky observation of your surroundings.

From what we can tell, it looks to be in the same vein as The Chinese Room's Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, albeit in real time. The tone of the trailer definitely sets a similar mood, and investigating just what happened in a disaster scenario in 1980's England is a strong through-line of both titles. The Occupation's freedom of choice looks to set the game apart, and we're definitely hoping it can propel the title further than just another walking simulator.

Replayability is a topic often discussed in relation to the genre, but The Occupation certainly looks to be incorporating ways to encourage multiple playthroughs. During the trailer alone, we were thinking up countless ways of tackling the scenario at hand, and how each way of accessing the office, retrieving the disk and getting out again, could work. Would she spot us trying to watch her type the password? How would that play out? What if we don't escape her office before she comes back? What if we're caught escaping? We loved the idea that so many outcomes could occur, and look forward to seeing how the investigation plays out.

The Occupation is set to release on 5th March 2019 across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The new trailer is available down below:
