As SIE President and CEO John Kodera stated PlayStation 4 console was "nearing the end of its lifecycle" earlier this week, both fans and the press starting doing their own maths - how long would that final phase last? Was the previously rumoured 2018-2019 launch for PlayStation 5 actually possible?

It actually turns out this final stretch for the PS4's leading performance in the market will be long and easy-going, as Kodera didn't actually mean imminent replacement, but more like a mid-term farewell strategy. "We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future", the CEO explained to the same source (subscription required, so Ars Technica brought it to our attention).

With this in mind, a potential PS5 would then launch in 2021 at the very earliest, as Sony will keep building on the triumph of the most successful console this generation to then try and "jump higher". This could also contain some clues in terms of the new system reveal and the potential hardware it'll sport, however, but with no new hardware to be unveiled at E3 2018, do you expect any PS5 news in 2019 at all?
