NBC Sports Group and Faceit have announced that their annual esports tournament, the Universal Open Rocket League, will return for a second season this summer, using Faceit's competitive platform as players go head to head in a 2v2 tournament, competing for $100,000 USD in prize money.

What's more is that anyone can compete, as there are open qualifiers for Europe and North America, using Faceit's own competitive platform all the way to the grand finals. Iced tea brand Brisk is also a sponsor for the competition now; a first for the tournament.

"The inaugural Universal Open Rocket League proved that 2v2 Rocket League matches could be a compelling competition that plays perfectly on livestreams and broadcast. Most importantly, it gives the community, from the aspiring grassroots players to established powerhouses, an opportunity to take part and showcase their skills and dedication to a huge audience," said Michele Attisani, Co-founder and Chief Business Officer of FACEIT. "This year promises to be bigger and better, with greater production level, more livestreaming and broadcast content. We look forward to players proving once again that the Universal Open Rocket League represents the future of esports."

Open qualifying rounds are due to take place in Europe and North America, starting on May 28, but there will also be closed qualifiers that will be hosted and livestreamed from Faceit's London studio. The Regional Finals, however, will happen at NBC Sports Regional Networks' studios around the US, with the finals happening on August 24 to 26.
