Ubisoft started this 2014 with the announcement of a classic franchise coming to new-gen consoles. It wasn't Beyond Good & Evil 2, but good ol' Tetris. Funnily enough, they also promised the development team would use "all the capacities of next-gen consoles" to fulfill their new vision in Tetris Ultimate.
Now, as a pre-E3 info release, many fans of the evergreen puzzler can get a bit closer to what the experience will be like in Xbox One, PS4 (summer) and PC (fall) later this year.
As the following screens show, the new game will take the wider space and detail of a full HD image to put four players together on one screen. Then they can play free-for-all or split into teams, playing six different game modes with their falling tetriminos: Marathon, Endless, Ultra, Sprint, Battle and Power-Up Battle. The latter is the least traditional one, as it offers "crazy power-ups".
The official description isn't very clear regarding online multiplayer, but we assume it'll be there. If not, the social feeds, replays, Tetris Rank and leaderboards will boost the online competition.
If you visit E3 expo next week, you might even be able get one of your beloved classic Tetris cartridges signed by Alexey Pajitnov himself, who'll be in attendance with this latest entry in the block-dropping series (Ubisoft booth, South Hall #1023).
