Last year was marked by a wide variety of IP acquisitions from THQ Nordic, who purchased TimeSplitters, Alone in the Dark and even Kingdoms of Amalur. Now we stand at the precipice of a new year, and it seems they'll continue this year.

Through a press release, THQ Nordic has announced, that they've purchased the rights to the Outcast franchise.

The original game was developed by Belgian developer Appeal, and was released in 1999 for Windows. It received critical acclaim and spawned a sequel which was never finished due to the studio going bankrupt. Appeal resurfaced and released a remake, Outcast: Second Contact, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2017, and yesterday on Facebook they teased something...

"Holly cow ! It's signed !!!"

Misspelling aside we highly doubt the studio would be that excited for signing away the rights to the Outcast IP, but if we were to speculate, it is possible that THQ Nordic picked up the rights and commissioned a sequel.

Remains to be seen what happens, Appeal could be working on something entirely different, and who knows what THQ Nordic plans on doing with the IP if that's the case...
