Good news for every that loves funky music and groovy aliens. Or just good games in general. Greg Johnson who was one of the co-creators of the original Toejam and Earl from the early Mega Drive days has now launched a Kickstarter campaign in search of $400,000 to be able to create Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove with his new outfit HumaNature Studios (Doki-Doki Universe).
As the name implies, it's a new adventure and according to Johnson they're going back to basic with this one:
"Will it be like game one or game two, you ask? Well... (holding breath)... mainly like game one. We plan to go old school with this one. Fixed isometric camera, 2D sprites, simple controls, and an emphasis on coop play. It will also pull in some of the more beloved elements from game two, AND we have a list of exciting new gameplay elements planned as well."
It will also be possible to play local co-op and from the look of things, they might really nail it with this one (up to four players), and the game will also features some unlocks that will carry over between sessions (unlike the original). As of now the campaign has amassed close to $85,000 from just over 1,500 backers - a solid start, though there is still a long way to go.
Check out the Kickstarter page for nice soundbits, animations, art, trailers and a lot more. And if you want to see the game made, perhaps you want to pledge something towards its creation.
