We'll all be streaming our games soon, apparently.

While the games industry has been pretty used to the rigid system of console life-cycles, this long-established setup has been changed in recent years with Nintendo being slightly off-the-pace, and with both Microsoft and Sony releasing mid-cycle upgrades too.

Whereas many industry figureheads have expressed their enthusiasm for the life-cycle system as it is, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot thinks it's about to end.

In an interview with Variety Guillemot has stated that Microsoft is looking beyond generations, adding that streaming will play a more prominent role in the market and with that being the case, he thinks the cycle will soon come to an end.

"I think we will see another generation, but there is a good chance that step-by-step we will see less and less hardware. With time, I think streaming will become more accessible to many players and make it not necessary to have big hardware at home. There will be one more console generation and then after that, we will be streaming, all of us."

What do you think? Is the end nigh for the generational approach to consoles?
