Cross-platform multiplayer is becoming an increasingly bigger deal, especially now that Sony has also reluctantly climbed aboard the cross-platform ship. The crossing of platforms happens mostly between PC and Xbox, which shares games like Forza Horizon 4, Sea of Thieves, and Gears of War, but it does require people to use the Microsoft Store, which a lot of people would prefer not to.
However, a new Steam update suggests that this might not be necessary in the future, and that cross-platform multiplayer options might be expanding. Someone has posted snippets of code on GitHub from the newest Steam Beta update, which refers to Xbox network features and suggests that Steam and Xbox Live might become even closer friends.
Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, so don't take this as fact, but it will be interesting to see what comes of this.
Would you like more cross-platform options?
Thanks, PC Gamer.
