OWO Haptic Vest - Product Demo and Jose Fuertes Interview

The CEO and founder at OWO talks us through their haptic jacket's main features right after we tried it out first-person at their offices in Málaga. The "second skin" vest is meant to produce real body sensations in and out of VR, and in the video we show how it works and discuss tech, design, software, calibration, potential partners, and launch details.

"Hi Gamereactor friends, as you can see I'm dressed up as a superhero and it's not because I'm a hero at all but this is a product that I was really looking forward to trying out at CES this year but unfortunately we couldn't be there physically but now we got the chance and we are so lucky and so thankful to be here in Málaga checking out OWO Thank you so much for joining us, Jose Thank you very much, it's a pleasure What can you tell us about the product and the feedback you got at CES?
Ok, really we were WOW in the CES, we were in the highlights, 3, 4, 5 products there Our innovation is a new haptic technology, this is a system Our innovation we offer real physical sensation as you know right now but we are using high software, this is the way we can offer real physical sensation and you are using our second skin so in your body if you are wearing this second skin, it's customized you can feel all type of real physical sensation I've tried out a couple of demos, both in VR and outside VR and it's very interesting as I was expecting like the very heavy obvious impacts for example like when you are heat but then you guys came up with other feelings or sensations such as feeling the air or you know when you are healed for example so what can you tell us about the whole range of sensations we can feel with OWO?
Ok, we have new haptic technology, it's a sensation technology and for the reason we can offer unlimited way to sensation it means if you are playing in VR, it's the next natural evolution of VR because more than seeing, more than hearing, feel the game in your body so you can feel all type of sensation you can feel hug, you can feel wind, someone touching your arm, gun recoil but obviously you can play in mobile, also you can play in PC and in PC is very nice because you also can play Valorant, Fortnite, CSGO, LOL and you can feel the wind when you are falling down and it's a new world because all the developers can integrate the sense of touch in the video game so it's a new way, a new rule to play video games so we are in shock because everyone in the community is OWO, thank you very much for adding the sense of touch it's a good responsibility for the company, all the team and in short because it's a pleasure to offer this real physical sensation we will talk about integrating this into the software a bit later but before that, what can you tell us about the hardware itself?
the jacket, what I'm wearing right now, of course you have different sizes and as I saw you can control the intensity and the different actuators that you have around the body the name is actually the second skin because you can feel like you are wearing anything we have a good SDK, with SDK the developer the only thing they have to do is to integrate in the code line is a player, number of sensations and where do you want to feel it's very very fast but obviously this is the native integration and we are playing with Overwolf in PC this is semi-native and you can play directly because we can read the events are you feeling or are you doing while you are playing in your favorite video game so for this reason, the engineer team at OVO is working very hard to offer real physical sensation with the SDK so they are improving every time to implement new sensation, new way to feel so for us it's very very nice to have this in our staff and of course you can choose the intensity you want I'm very sensitive so we were deciding via an app how I wanted to feel at every single spot in your second skin you can find pads, no actuator because we are not offering vibration we are offering real physical sensation so in each one position you can feel the sensation with a train of pulse so it's separately and we can combine all the sensation in your body so when you are playing it's every time under control the end user has control with the application because you can customize all the real physical sensation as you want so it's very sure every time you have control, you can stop, you can play when you want and also you can adjust exactly the intensity as you want to feel in every moment and of course it means no harm at all even if it can be very intense, there is no harm involved even if you see me in the video like doing like hey I was hit but just for people to know that there is no harm involved everything is 100% sure, you have control so you decide if you can decide everything is okay and what about on the other side of the spectrum if you want to use this for therapeutic uses for example I was thinking the feeling is very similar to when you are having a physiotherapy in terms of stimulating the muscles you want to stimulate etc so can you picture, I don't know, a fitness game where you actually work out the muscles you want with the actual feeling?
okay this is similar but it's not the same because when you are playing workout for a lesser muscle stimulation it's continuous but we took the wave and discomposed and we patented this new technology with our algorithm train of pulse and the possibility to change nine different parameters it means you want to shoot you and you feel the bullet in your chest and get out in your back for both sides it means four micro-sensations and this micro-sensation we can change all parameters in milliseconds so it means this is not a lesser muscle stimulation as the people now in this moment this is more complicated because we can manage everything and we can offer train of pulse in milliseconds for the reason we are working in the surface of muscle and we are creating new sensation and when you are watching and hearing you can evolve totally because when you are playing you know where is exactly your enemy and where the place are you shooting you it's interesting as you say that you can feel where the enemy is because if you don't have a proper audio system now I can tell you that you feel you are hit from behind for example but just to be clear you don't get fit from using OVO yes because this is train of pulse, this is not a lesser muscle stimulation so unfortunately this is not for fitness this is for gaming, for funny, for create a real physical sensation in milliseconds in terms of gaming specifically and in terms of implementation I guess some of our viewers might be wondering the system seems pretty cool but what games are gonna use it I tried out this demo you had on Oculus and then you showed me some gameplay demos with other games like how could they feel when they use OVO so what can we expect in terms of what do developers need to make their games support OVO or the other solution you showed us is with some games such as Fortnite you really don't need the developer to partake ok this is right now the blue ocean it means the people in this moment, the community that now they can feel in the video games so for this reason we are working very hard to offer this new technology if we are ready to launch our product at the end of this year I'm sure when the solutions are in the market will be in the market, everyone can understand better but all the developers are trying the system is like you, oh thank you OVO, this is incredible this is the opportunity we took it in the CES so we will be in game developer conference talking with the developers and offering this solution but the most important is to try the system when you try, you know ok, you have a good solution the only thing they need is only one day, two days to implement this technology right now you need this time to add in the code line but obviously we have a new solution in PC with Overwolf you don't need to spend any time the only thing you have to do is to enjoy, to have fun but we are working very hard to talk with the big corporate to implement our SDK inside the console so for this reason when everyone are implementing directly in the console all the developers will implement directly so this is the fastest way one thing more, you just mentioned how you want to talk to companies with VR evolving year by year and we are expecting new releases in the near future of course Sony is coming with PSVR too and we are seeing Oculus or Meta evolve in new ways in terms of hardware and we have HTC and other actors here so have you talked to those manufacturers in terms of having OWO as the go for jacket for those systems and the more games that are coming out in VR in the next few months and years after CES everyone was to work with OWO so in this moment we are talking with everyone and we are studying what is exactly the best way to do this collaboration because the big corporates are arriving and we are talking, ok, to be honest we would like to offer in all solutions we don't want to offer in only one solution but it will be in relation how will be our negotiation with the big corporates but obviously we are talking with everyone and now closing one, when can we expect OWO to hit the market?
what is the expected price and in which sizes?
I was lucky you guys had a nest for me we have all sizes, it doesn't matter because everyone is totally different we will launch the product at the end of this year the price will be under 500 euros men and women designs or single design?
we are trying to democratize in this moment we are only unisex but we are studying to implement different consumables for women and what about the design?
is it going to be like this or different colors?
no, no, because the colors and the customization we can do all we want because we can print the logo and we can print everything so it means they feel more comfortable and more fit all right, thank you so much for your time I said OWO thank you very much you"
