The History Channel drama Vikings is certainly a success story and the man behind the concept and the bulk of the writing, Michael Hirst, had a sit-down with Swedish film magazine Moviezine earlier this week and gave some interesting tidbits of general information.

Amongst other things, Hirst points out that he created the TV-show mainly to teach people about the vikings and that the general understanding of the people is wrong and has been wrong for many years. "I just wanted to show people that what they knew about vikings was wrong," he said.

In the same interview, Hirst also talks about the fact that he did an awful lot of research before writing the show and that a lot of the overall themes are 100% accurate in terms of historic accuracy. What other historical shows do you like?
