Visceral Games has been closed down, and while they may have been known mainly for the Dead Space series, they've worked on a host of other projects too. While most came to fruition, their Star Wars game ultimately did not, and now we know that's not the only one.

According to a new report by Polygon Visceral was at one point developing a game based on Jack the Ripper.

The game started development around 2010 and had a budget of $25 million. The mere concept divided the staffers at the studio, as the game put you in the shoes of one of history's most brutal killers. The story was set to depict him as a deranged lunatic, who thought that killing would somehow save London from evil.

"In no way were we trying to sully the history of these victims and the families associated with them and all that; we wanted to be very respectful," said an unnamed developer.

Ultimately, what happened to the project sounds familiar. EA demanded multiplayer, and then the project lost its soul. A spin-off entitled Blood Dust was then commissioned but was cancelled in 2011.
