Wales Interactive has already delivered us FMV story-driven games like Late Shift and The Bunker in the past, and now they've announced another FMV project called The Complex, a cinematic sci-fi thriller made in collaboration with Red & Black Films and Little Jade Productions.

The plot revolves around a bio-weapon attack on London, with two scientists subsequently locked in a laboratory as the air starts to run out. There are over 100 interactive choices within the story, and you need to try and escape the lab. With several endings available though, we can't imagine all of them end well.

The game is described as a "female-driven production", as writer Lynn Renee Maxcy has worked on The Handmaid's Tale, with Michelle Mylett, Kate Dickie, and more also acting in The Complex.

David Banner - MBE of Wales Interactive - says: "Over the last few years in the video games industry we've been one of the driving forces behind the resurgence of the interactive movie genre and this exciting cross-industry collaborative project will further blur the lines between film and games".

Richard Pring of Wales Interactive adds that "The Complex will be the first interactive movie that utilises our innovative new scripting tool for filmmakers and writers, which was developed in-house by Wales Interactive. We're extremely pleased to be offering this tool to our partners and will be making a full announcement to reveal the software to the public in the near future."

"Making an interactive film has been a dream since I first read the Choose your Own Adventure books as a child. The Complex presents a rare opportunity to help pioneer new ways of telling stories on screen," continues John Giwa-Amu from Red & Black Films.

The Complex will be released on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One in Q1 2020, and for more on the game check out the official site. What do you think of FMV games?

REVIEW. Written by Mike Holmes

"Considering the modest price, if you're a fan of the FMV genre we'd recommend taking a chance on this one."
