Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus has already shown its face to PC players, but with the game headed to consoles we talked with producer Andrew McKerrow not too long ago about the reasoning for this.

"People didn't stop asking about it," he laughed. "Mechanicus has been a great success. Steam we've got 90% review ratings, which is huge, and because of the passion and love, the number of requests for Switch and Xbox and PlayStation - those all kind of added up to 'I think we have to do it now'."

"There were some small challenges. Luckily we've got a lot of people who have already done it in the industry for these turn-based, tactical type games, which is really useful because we can draw from that pool of information and then apply that to our user interface and so on."

"I think it's actually working really well. It's really, really smooth, and it's almost like you've not even noticed it's come from PC. In fact, it does feel like it's meant for console, I think that's what's great."

Optimisation is the focus for now, as McKerrow said in the interview below, especially for Switch, but they know what needs to be done.

REVIEW. Written by Roy Woodhouse

"While it's heavy on lore and therefore may not have broad appeal, turn-based tactics fans might still find enough to like here that makes it worth pushing through."
