We had a chance to catch up with DrinkBox Studios at The MIX during E3 to learn more about the new upcoming versions of Severed for iOS, 3DS, and Wii U, while also discussing our experience with the PS Vita game.

"We tried very hard to make a game that doesn't feel like a simple, casual game," said Smith. "That really tries to push what touch games are doing."

Clearly, touch is key to the concept of Severed, but we asked Smith if other platforms had been considered for a port.

"We're often getting suggestions from people to maybe using PlayStation Move now that PlayStation VR is coming," said Smith.

"The sword-fighting with the move will be... maybe you'll get stronger from playing. Or even PlayStation VR. Some people have suggested maybe trying to use the touch pad on the DualShock 4. We might continue to experiment with these things, we don't want to release the game in a way that it feels forced out on a platform. We want to make sure that the experience is good on wherever we release it, so I'm not sure it will ever come to those things, but it's possible."

The interview also covers the themes and narrative of the game (without spoilers), the design to signpost secrets, as well as the visual design.

Severed is out now on PS Vita (read our review), and will hit iOS, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (the latter two with cross-buy) this summer.

Severed

REVIEW. Written by Bengt Lemne

"While Severed may not be the sort of game that's worth cutting off an arm or a leg over, it certainly scratched our dungeon delving itch in a new and rather unique way."
