The three games in the "Souls" series from developer From Software, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Dark Souls II, have seen increasing levels of praise with each new release. At the same time an odd glitch within the last game has been ignored ever since its original release back in March of last year.

The glitch has to do with weapon degradation. Each time you use a weapon in Dark Souls II wear and tear causes it do degrade until a point where it becomes useless. That's fair, and you can even repair them at a local blacksmith, but for some reason the speed of the degradation is tied to the game's framerate.

The result of this was that weapons degraded much faster in the PC version running at 60 frames per second, compared to the last-gen console versions. In addition the glitch had not been removed prior to the recent release of current-gen console version, called Scholar of the First Sin, making this an even more common problem.

Now however, From Software is finally doing something about the issue. Or, to be more precise, they plan to. For the next patch the following fix will be amongst the issues the mean to address:

"Fixed issue whereby weapon durability was decreased drastically when used on enemy corpses, friendly characters, etc", From Software writes in a rundown about the next patch (in japanese).

The phrasing is somewhat unclear, but a representative from Bandai Namco has since confirmed that this in fact is a fix for the degradation-framerate issue:

"The fix will be issued for PS4, Steam and Xbox One, and will be apparent for people running the game at 60fps as the durability decrease rate is linked to the frame rate," the representative explains. "We are still working on the exact release date for the patch, which will also fix additional issues not just durability, and will follow up with the date as soon as possible."

About bloody time, eh?

Cheers, Kotaku.

REVIEW. Written by Philip Lauritz Poulsen

"The game has lost none of its relentless difficulty, and the many improvements make it a great experience for veterans and newcomers. But it may not be for everybody."
