Will Wright: "video games are a tool to understand reality"

Creator Will Wright was unable to appear in person to pick up his Honorary Award in Barcelona, but appeared in "virtual spirit" via video to talk about the industry, specifically simulation, cloud computing, educational games, women in the industry, and his new role.

On simulation

"I believe that simulations are becoming more and more relevant, by the fact that they tried to take the real world and make a model of it. But what really interests me in this medium [of video games] is that we can use it as a tool to understand reality. So the type of games I usually do tend to put the focus on... it's simulation.

"When you do a simulation, you're not really trying to copy reality, but rather to make a caricature of it. [You] want to exaggerate certain things in certain ways to illustrate one particular facet."
