Xbox boss Phil Spencer made an appearance on Giantbomb's E3 livestream last night, where they discussed Microsoft and their newly rediscovered place in the PC gaming world.

It's no secret that some of Microsoft's games haven't been selling too well on the Windows Store, and Phil Spencer acknowledged this:

"They all haven't gone swimmingly. Some of them have gone well," Spencer said. "Forza 6 Apex did well. Quantum Break wasn't our best PC release. Killer Instinct did well on PC. Gears of War Ultimate Edition was OK--we definitely learned there."

Possibly because of the success of the biggest PC storefront, Steam, Spencer has expressed a willingness to co-operate with them in order to release a few more games onto that platform, but all the major releases would be likely to stay on the Windows Store. "I want to build a store; there's no doubt about that," Spencer said to Giantbomb.

In the past, Microsoft-published games have appeared on Steam - Halo: Spartan Assault and Spartan Strike are two examples. Major first-party releases from Microsoft are probably not coming to Steam, but Spencer confirmed we'll see a few smaller games coming to the storefront in the future.

"I don't think Valve's hurt by not having our first-party games in their store right now. They're doing incredibly well. We will ship games on Steam again."

Another concern that many have had, including Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney, was that Microsoft had ulterior motives with the Universal Windows Platform, that they were planning to use the platform to monitor and monopolise PC development. Spencer addressed this: "There's still definitely concern that UWP and our store are somehow linked in a way that is nefarious. It's not."

It's great to see Spencer embracing the PC gaming market, including Steam, to such an extent, and it's likely we'll see many more big-budget Microsoft games coming to the platform - including, possibly, Halo 6.
