We got a demo and a chat with Harebrained Schemes' studio head Mitch Gitelman as he tried to play the challenging roguelike while talking to us at the same time.

"Our designers said: What would happen if Dark Souls and Spelunky had a baby?", says Mitch Gitelman when asked how to describe Necropolis. "And the result is this, Necropolis."

During the demo we were given a look at the progression system between runs, crafting, and various attacking techniques and weaonry as Gitelman managed to beat an enemy he'd up until that point had yet to beat in a run.

"Different enemies are susceptible to different weapon attacks," says Gitelman after having picked up a short sword with lightning attack. "Part of the fun of the game is just trying to figure that stuff out, because we don't tell you. This is a hardcore game. You want to learn the game? Learn it by playing."

"Truthfully, I swear to you there are enemies and weapons I have never seen in the game," says Gitelman. "I have never actually played them myself."

REVIEW. Written by Aldin Sadikovic

"Necropolis is designed to be played with friends; playing alone can be frustratingly difficult."
