CESA, organiser of Tokyo Game Show and the Japanese trade organisation, announced the winners of the Japan Game Awards 2017 today. The annual ceremony honours games and products released during the last twelve months.

Game of the Year, or Grand Prize winner in the Games of the Year category was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, giving Nintendo the second Grand Award in a row. "In the popular vote, it was unanimous that "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" should receive this year's Grand Award", read the motivation.

Sony didn't leave the show empty handed: "PlayStation VR won this year's Special Award for the overwhelming sense of presence produced in conjunction with proprietary 3D audio technology, which delivers an experience where the player feels as though they are inside the game world, as well as expanding the potential of games and presenting players with new ways of enjoying games".

FIFA 17 was recognised as the best foreign product and Nintendo also grabbed two more awards with Pokémon Sun and Moon: Best Sales Award and the Global Award for Japanese Product. A further 11 titles, apart from the Grand Prize winner, were honoured in the Games of the Year category:

• Overwatch

• Final Fantasy XV
• Resident Evil 7: Revelations
• Horizon: Zero Down
